On the occasion of June 5th The world Environmental Day, 28 student
volunteers from 6 university environmental protection organizations in
Kunming joined the activity themed attention to our waters in the
morning of June 4.

The activity was taken place along Panlong River, Mother River
of Kunming City, Yunnan Province.

          
  
    
The volunteers fetched waters from certain points by the banks and then
sucked the sample water with test tubes. They got the COD values several
minutes later when the sample water in the tubes had changed their colors.

The results of the test in the different points were very upset. The test showed high values of COD at almost every tested point besides Shangba V. at the
foot of Songhuaba Reservoir.

Furthermore, sewages, rubbishes like wasted plastic bags, pericarps,
cigarette ends, wasted newspapers; human and animal wastes were
caught sight frequently along the banks of the river. And the smells
of the water was terrible.

    

The execrable water quality and the environment of the Panlong River
were afflictive to the participants. Nevertheless, none of them could
give up their efforts in the protection of the river.
