2012-8-30:Syracuse University students from USA at GEC

Followed by their last trip in Lashihai on September 2, 2011, the Syracuse University Beijing students (Fall 2012) paid their visit again at GEC in Lashihai on August 30, 2012. Douglas Kim, one of them wrote a piece about what he thought of GEC’s education.
Before coming to China, I had many misconceptions of what I would be doing during my year in China, and before I had even set foot in Yunnan, I had misconceptions of what my journey would cover and what I would learn; when I came to Yunnan, I expected that most of my time would be spent on traveling. On my journey, however, I was surprised, both as a student and a member of Syracuse University’s program. Instead of simply traveling, I during this journey have learned more not only about the cultural and biological diversity of this beautiful region but also about the problems inherent in a community facing the challenges of globalization. Today, I had the pleasure once again to learn about the problems facing Yunnan and China at large. I had the opportunity to learn about Chen Laoshi’s  research into biogas, and as a student, I have had the chance to take advantage of the information learned today to come up with my own ideas. I hope that as a traveler I can take the important lessons from here to make a difference in my own community.
